Kia ora! My name is James, and I am currently pursuing a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood Education) at New Zealand Tertiary College. In December 2020, I completed my master’s degree with distinction at the University of Auckland. Prior to that, I worked in the media and entertainment industry for nearly a decade.
I totally agree that the first five years of a child’s life are critical as their brain absorbs enormous amounts of information and grows rapidly. As a father of a four-year old angel, I became keen on Early Childhood Education during the lockdowns in 2020 as I had the opportunity to observe her like never before. I always consider an early childhood teacher as their second teacher (parents are the first!), hence I am an integral part of their early learning process.
My teaching philosophy is that an attentive and thoughtful mind empowers me to become a competent early childhood kaiako through responsive and reciprocal relationships with tamariki and their families/whānau. As the latest member joining the Red Kite whānau, it is always one of my teaching aspirations to help tamariki thrive on loving attachments and a secure sense of belonging as well as facilitate their learning and exploration to reach their full potential
